If you have negative thoughts every so often, then this article has been created specifically to help you get from that negative state of mind to something more productive and beneficial.

We all have negative thoughts from time to time and it's simply a part of life, but what's important is to understand how not to let negative thoughts get control over you. Therefore, in this article, we look at how to stop negative thoughts...

1. Detachment

- One of the biggest misconceptions that most people have when it comes to their thoughts is that they're one in the same as who they are

- This isn't the case, as just you can write something down and it isn't a part of you as an individual, a thought can be observed without it taking a hold over you as a person

- This is often done through meditative practices, whereby you spend time meditating and as you do, you allow your thoughts to float by, simply observing them without them directly affecting you

- Imagine it like observing clouds in the sky, each one takes it's own shape and form, but no two are the same and once they've passed, they're gone

2. Build Positive Beliefs

- What you believe can define who you are, meaning if you believe in something that's negative, then that's what you will instinctively seek to make your reality

- The same works the other way, as you develop a mindset to grow, to build and to improve, you naturally seek the opportunities in life to make this your reality

- But how do you actually do this? Well, the key is to take your belief and add references, or evidence, that not only is it possible to make the belief your reality, but that it's a certainty

- The more references you add, the stronger the belief, and likewise, the more references you take away from negative beliefs, the less power it holds

3. Have a Morning Routine

- I don't think I've personally come across anyone that's successful that doesn't have a positive morning routine that sets themselves  up for a good day

- The fact is, your morning routine plays a significant role in your life, as it sets your state for the day ahead and thus can affect the thoughts you will have through the day

- Try to wake up a little earlier than you need to and use this time wisely, doing things which are focused on yourself to help you reach a positive and uplifting state

- This might be exercise, meditation or doing something you enjoy that's productive, the key is to prep yourself to be in a state where you feel ready to take the day on

- Negative thoughts often come from fear and a lack of belief that we can do something or achieve certain results, often related to the unknown of what's to come

- We already looked at how your beliefs can influence your mindset, but arguably the most important belief is the one you have in yourself

- Therefore, it's critical to believe you're capable of finding solutions to problems, and develop an attitude that fits with this idea by having a problem solving mindset.

- This means to have objectivity when looking at problems and using logical thought processes to deal with them, meaning no longer are your thoughts negative, but rather focused on how to solve the problem

5. Use the Displacement Theory

- Sometimes it's inevitable that you'll have a negative thought, it's a natural occurance and we can't always prevent it, but what we can do is control it

- Learn to catch yourself in the act of creating a negative thought, and when you do, learn to displace it by thinking of another thought instead.

- As it's not possible to focus our attention on two thoughts at the same time, your negative

thought will quickly lose it's power and hold, setting you free from it's potential impact

- So control your thoughts, don't let them take a hold of you, and most important of
